The Otavalo cultural tour is a wonderful way to discover and combine the famous artesian indigenous market in Ecuador and some of the amazing views outside Otavalo. The tour begins with a scenic drive through the Sierra highlands and our first stop will be at Cayambe. Here we will taste and learn about the town´s famous biscochos (local biscuits). From Cayambe we´ll head to the wonderful Peguche waterfalls.
Before we have lunch and explore the famous market of Otavalo, where you´ll have the option to purchase local handicrafts. Our professional guide will tell you more about Otavalo and the indigenous people of this area such as the Quitu - Cara and other pre-Inca groups. After the lunch and exploring the market we´ll arrive at the beautiful Laguna Cuicocha. Laguna Cuicocha is located in a volcano crater and contains two green islands (an optional sail is available – $2). Just before we head back to Quito we will pass the viewpoint of Lago San Pablo, a perfect stop to finish the day. An optional visit at a work shop of musical instruments of wood depends on the demand and the market time.
"Otavalo was a great day trip. Being a shopaholic I went crazy in the market where everything is so resonably priced! I have no idea how I am going to get it all home. The Cuicocha Lake was beautiful to see, the waterfall too. I also enjoyed being in the much more indigenous ambience of this town"
